In the aftermath of Kyrie Irving’s latest trade request, the Brooklyn Nets are scrambling to decide the future with less than a week to go before the trade deadline.

After contract extension talks fell apart, Irving pulled the only leverage he had by announcing his intentions to leave as a free agent this summer.

The Nets could easily decide to call Kyrie’s bluff and wait him out until the offseason but there is a sense that he will be moved sooner rather than later.

In fact, an Irving trade could be announced anytime between now and February 9th.

“Talking to folks around the NBA, there’s a feeling a Kyrie Irving trade could happen fairly quickly. Both the team trading for Irving and Nets would likely have other work to do after a deal,” tweeted NBa analyst Keith Smith. “Starting to feel like it might happen quickly, to leave time for more before Thursday.”

No matter how the Nets feel about their odds to win a title this season, they risk losing Kyrie for nothing this summer if they don’t trade him right now. It’s a sticky situation for the Nets and almost a lose-lose scenario either way.

Has Kyrie Played His Final Game For The Nets?

After being ruled out for the game against the Wizards tonight, speculation is higher than ever that Irving is on the verge of being shipped to a new team. and whether or not the Nets decide to trade him this season, Kyrie may elect not to return to rejoin his teammates.

“I think its difficult now for Kyrie Irving to walk back in this locker room between now and trade deadline and just go back to work,” said Adrian Wojnarowski. “I’m told that he’s been good around this team lately. Everybody was optimistic… but that all changes today.”

There were good vibes in Brooklyn before it all came crashing down. If you’re been paying attention at all to the Nets over the past few years, you probably aren’t surprised at this latest eruption of chaos.

But if you’re the Nets, how much longer can you continue to endure this neverending cycle of drama and uncertainty?

It probably won’t be for long, and the Nets have seemingly already begun the process of re-housing their disgruntled star point guard.
