After a 43-32 finish in the Western Conference this past season, the Dallas Mavericks have plans to make their roster even better.
According to a recent report from Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News, the team will make some major roster adjustments this offseason that could involve almost all of their players put on the block.
And according to multiple league sources, no one is churning harder than Mavericks president and general manager Donnie Nelson, who has made it clear to peers league-wide that:
Dallas wants to acquire a third star to augment the pairing of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, and if that takes adding other teams’ unwanted salaries so be it.
All — repeat all — Mavericks players not named Doncic or Porzingis are available.
Though they currently own the 18th and 31st picks in the Nov. 18 draft, the Mavericks have a strong desire to trade into the lottery (picks 1-14).
After a breakout season, Luka Doncic emerged as one of the best players in the game, averaging 28.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists on 46% shooting. His co-star, Kristaps Porzingis, was also a dominant force this past season, putting up 20.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 42% shooting.
They earned the seventh seed in the West and were able to take the LA Clippers to six games before being eliminated in the postseason.
While there are endless options awaiting the Mavericks in free agency, it will be interesting to see how they manage their roster in the weeks ahead. All we know for certain is that they won’t be taking things lightly.
