NBA Rumors: Cavs And Rockets Have Had Discussions About Russell Westbrook Trade

2 Min Read

The Houston Rockets have yet to find a trade for either of their star players, and it’s possible they might both remain with the team by the start of the upcoming season.

Still, it doesn’t mean the Rockets haven’t tried. In fact, Westbrook came up in trade talks between the Rockets and Cavaliers, according to Shams Charania.

Both teams have something to gain in a player swap.

The Rockets could offer star power in Westbrook, a gritty point guard who brings maximum effort on the court. In a lineup with Andre Drummond and Cedi Osman, the Cavs could make some real noise in the East — given they find something that works for Collin Sexton and Darius Garland.

In exchange, Cleveland could turn over sharpshooting big man Kevin Love and athletic power forward, Larry Nance Jr. In these, the Rockets have some size to add next to Harden as well as an additional floor spacer who would thrive on Harden drives.

The problem for this scenario, and any other hypothetical trade involving Westbrook, is his value, which has taken a significant hit since the Orlando bubble. Will a team like Cleveland really be willing to give up their long-time veteran and a young player for a guy with so many flaws?

There’s a reason Brodie is still available after requesting a trade for what seems like forever ago. All he might need is another chance — but who’s going to give it to him?
