Russell Westbrook is a player that many Los Angeles Lakers fans would like to see the back of. While no one has ever accused Russ of not playing hard, his decline in recent seasons has been apparent, and it just hasn’t worked out for him in a Lakers uniform. There was some optimism that this might change in his second season, but that’s not really been the case.
As a trade piece, Russell Westbrook provides any team the opportunity to take on a massive contract that is expiring in the offseason. Russ has been linked with several franchises across the league in trade rumors, although always include the caveat that any trade for him would also involve the Lakers‘ two first-round picks in 2027 and 2029.
Westbrook himself is unfazed by all the rumors, despite the having seriously heated up since Kyrie Irving requested a trade from the Nets once again. But the Lakers’ interest in Kyrie might just be a little overstated if reports are to be believed, which means that Russ could be traded to some other team. Terry Rozier has been named as a potential player that could come back in a Westbrook trade, and now the Utah Jazz’s potential package has also been revealed.
Mike Conley, Jarred Vanderbilt, And Malik Beasley Mentioned As Potential Pieces In Westbrook Trade
The Utah Jazz have a lot of role players they can move on from, and that’s exactly what the Lakers need. According to Jake Fischer, they are considering three players in a deal for Westbrook, aging point guard Mike Conley, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt.
“One of the possible trade destinations for Westbrook, Utah, also remains a major catalyst ahead of the deadline.
“Any deal that sends Westbrook to the Jazz would almost certainly include veteran point guard Mike Conley, wing shooter Malik Beasley and forward Jarred Vanderbilt, but sources told Yahoo Sports that Utah’s front office has discussed various deals across the league with each of those three players — including several combinations of Beasley and Vanderbilt heading out of Salt Lake City together.”
Between Conley, Vanderbilt, and Beasley, they are averaging over 30 points per game. The players could certainly provide the Lakers’ roster with some depth and versatility. They can also shoot the three-pointer well, something that the Lakers really need on their team if they want to make a deep playoff run. A move like this wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Lakers.
