Donovan Mitchell is one of the best young shooting guards in the league, and there’s no doubt that he is a top-tier scorer. He has shown the ability to produce on volume and has led the Utah Jazz on multiple playoff runs in his young career.
Despite the fact that Donovan Mitchell is a fantastic player, there is a possibility that the Utah Jazz end up trading him. The Miami Heat were named as a “smart landing spot” for him.
Miami has been mentioned by league sources as a smart landing spot for Mitchell with Wade’s strong connections to his beloved Heat. However, Knicks president Leon Rose was Wade’s agent in the later stages of the guard’s career. Rose postponed his start with the Knicks to arrange Wade’s retirement ceremony in Miami.
There is no doubt that there is a chance that Donovan Mitchell ends up staying with the Utah Jazz into the start of the season. However, Marc Berman of The New York Post revealed that Donovan Mitchell will “eventually” request a trade, but added it might not be until the next offseason.
The Jazz are contemplating breaking up the Mitchell-Rudy Gobert tandem that’s been a solid playoff entrant but not potent enough to get to a Western Conference finals.
The Knicks — and several other teams — are monitoring Mitchell’s situation to see if he asks for a trade. Snyder said in a release the Jazz need “a new voice.’’
Mitchell, who is from Westchester, was noncommittal after the Jazz’s playoff ouster. League sources believe Mitchell eventually will request a trade, but it might not be until next summer.
There’s no doubt that if the New York Knicks were to acquire Donovan Mitchell, then it would go a long way for them. He is a bonafide star, and he could potentially attract other players to join the Knicks.
It remains to be seen what happens with Donovan Mitchell’s situation. Hopefully, the Utah Jazz are able to work something out with him going forward, but if not, then there’ll be no shortage of interest from other teams.
