NBA Rumors: Utah Jazz Trying To Land Collin Sexton Without Involving Donovan Mitchell

The Utah Jazz made the decision to go for a different route this offseason, dealing Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves first, and now are reportedly trying to send Donovan Mitchell away to enter a full rebuilding process. They have more veterans on the roster that could be dealt soon, like Mike Conley, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and more.

Meanwhile, they are still trying to find a trade partner for Mitchell, but the team’s asking price for the All-Star guard might be a big obstacle to getting it done. The New York Knicks remain favorites to land Mitchell, but nothing is certain right now.

On the other end, the Jazz are reportedly working on getting some deals done around the league, even if they don’t involve Mitchell. That’s the case with Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton, who is a serious candidate for Utah this offseason. According to Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, the Jazz are still trying to get a deal completed for Sexton via sign-and-trade with the Cavs.

“Nonetheless, the Cavs remained active in talks, and it’s pretty clear the Jazz have a strong interest in Collin Sexton, the restricted free agent who remains unsigned,” Amico wrote.

“The Cavs and Jazz could still talk sign-and-trade on Sexton without Mitchell being involved, sources said. Along with Sexton, the Cavs have also made Cedi Osman available in talks throughout the offseason, as we relayed previously.”

Sexton has been involved in many rumors since last season. Despite recording interesting performances for the Cavaliers, it doesn’t seem like he’s seen with the same eyes as Evan Mobley and Darius Garland. Sexton is a very talented player who can take over games, but the Cavaliers don’t look like the best spot for him.

Landing in Utah, a young team looking to bring something different to the table, would be very good for him. Still, we have to wait before the Jazz make a serious offer about Sexton, who is yet to sign a contract extension with the Cavaliers.

It looks like Mitchell is having the same effect in Utah that Kevin Durant had in Brooklyn. As long as he stays on the team, nothing else will happen.

Sexton only played 16 games for the Cavaliers last season, posting 16.0 PPG, 3.3 RPG, and 2.1 APG while shooting for 45.0% from the field and 74.4% from the free-throw line.
