In an announcement on Instagram today, young basketball celebrity Bryce James revealed his commitment to play for the Arizona Wildcats for the 2025-26 season. Bryce, a senior at Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, is set to graduate this spring and will immediately make the transition to the NCAA.
“100% committed ⬇️” wrote James in a viral post on Instagram.
Bryce, 17, is the youngest son of LeBron and the middle child of the James family. Born in 2007, Bryce inherited the spotlight from day one as the offspring of basketball legend LeBron James. Over the past 17 years, Bryce has lived under the shadow of his father but he’s ready to step out on his own and create a legacy of his own making.
His brother, Bronny, was the first to make NBA history with the King. This season, he joined LeBron on the court for the Lakers as the league’s first father-son duo ever. Bronny has since been assigned to the G-League, but he has plenty of time to develop his game after signing a fully guaranteed $7.9 million over four years.
With the South Bay Lakers this season, Bronny James is averaging 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game on 36.6% shooting. He still has a long way to go in terms of developing his game but the Lakers are doing everything they can to give him the best odds of success.
In the case of Bryce, only time will tell where he ends up in his basketball journey. As a four-star recruit out of High School, he’s become an intriguing young athlete because of his shooting potential and his naturally soft touch around the rim. Of course, at 6’6″, Bryce is also taller than his brother and is likely not done growing yet.
In an AAU league this summer, Bryce flashed some of his natural skills with averages of 6.9 points and 2.2 rebounds in 14 games. Of course, what Bryce has in size he lacks in athleticism and some believe it may hinder what he’ll be able to do on the court.
But before Bryce can think about going pro, he’ll have to prove he can handle the college game and Arizona is a great place for him to get started. The Wildcats reached the Final Four of the NCAA tournament on four separate occasions, including in 1997 when they won their first NCAA national basketball tournament championship.
Today, the Arizona Wildcats are still widely respected and they are in a good position right now with veteran head coach Tommy Lloyd. It’s Lloyd who apparently appealed to James due to his reputation for developing players and now he’ll get the chance to work with one of the game’s most famous young athletes.
It remains to be seen what role Bryce will have for the Wildcats initially, but as someone with a lot of pressure on his shoulders, it’s imperative that James is patient with the process and avoids trying to skip steps in his development.
If he plays his cards right, Bryce might even make the NBA in time to join his father and brother in the league. For now, however, his focus is on finishing his Senior year and preparing to take that next step which will open up a whole new level of the game.
