The Dallas Mavericks were one of the most disappointing teams coming around to the end of the regular season. After some questionable moves, the Mavs were seeing some massive shifts from their fan base as well. However, this will be subject to some change in light of recent events.
After trading Luka Dončić to LA, the Mavs were offering season ticket holders refunds.

Fans were rightfully infuriated with how their team’s front office was conducting business. With particular reference to the Luka Doncic trade and the subsequent ignorance on the part of the front office, fans had every reason to be upset. To this extent, Mavs season ticket holders demanded a refund as well.
But all of this stands to change as the Mavericks won the draft lottery on Monday night and came away with the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. After jumping up 10 spots, with a 1.8% chance of winning, Dallas now has an opportunity to draft a generational talent in Cooper Flagg to revitalize the franchise.
Flagg’s potential arrival could mark a new era in Dallas. But more importantly, it has immediately recalibrated the way the Mavericks were conducting business. From offloading season tickets, the front office will now reap the benefits of drafting a star player as the team reports advertising a waitlist for next season.
This presents a great situation for the city of Dallas. Having already seen a first-overall pick in Paige Bueckers join Dallas’ WNBA team, the Dallas Sky, having a No. 1 pick in the NBA as well, is unprecedented.
The nature of the Mavericks receiving the pick has been considered a bit suspicious, however. Several fans have hinted at how odd the situation has been. In this regard, Mavs CEO Rick Welts also addressed these conspiracy theories and only said the experience was “surreal”.
The lack of evidence to support these conspiracies ensures that Dallas can celebrate what could potentially be a monumental moment for their franchise.
Dallas saw a disappointing end to the season after Doncic was traded to the Lakers. Although trading for Anthony Davis presented the team with an opportunity to improve their defense and continue to compete, the star big man went down with an injury while making his debut for the team.
Injuries continued to plague the team as Kyrie Irving also suffered a season-ending injury. With the star guard out for an extended period, there was very little the team could do to instill some life in its fan base.
Drafting the Duke star could be exactly what the fans need. Flagg has been presented as one of the most highly sought-after players over the last year. Especially considering his high ceiling for development, the Mavericks would benefit greatly from focusing on helping his growth around their pre-existing superstar core of Davis and Irving.
With the NBA Draft due to take place on June 25-26th in Brooklyn, NY, Mavs fans will hope against all hope to see their team make the most of this situation.
