Draymond Green has delivered more than his fair share of groin shots to opponents over the years but was on the receiving end of one from an unlikely source on Sunday. In the second quarter of the game between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers, Stephen Curry accidentally headbutted Green in the groin.

Green clearly was a bit hurt following that bizarre incident. Considering Curry was the one who hit him, there was no reaction on his part but had it been an opponent, he probably would have lashed out.

With how many groin shots Green has delivered in his career, fans didn’t have much sympathy for him. His most famous victim, of course, was Steven Adams, who got kicked twice during the 2016 Western Conference Finals.

Draymond wasn’t suspended for these hits but did get fined. He then infamously hit LeBron James in the groin in Game 4 of the 2016 NBA Finals.

Green did get suspended following this incident, although, it was for an accumulation of flagrant fouls in that playoff run. The Warriors would go on to blow a 3-1 lead and lose that series in seven, so Draymond paid a big price for that groin shot.

Getting back to the present, Green didn’t feature in the closing lineup for the Warriors in this clash with the Clippers. Head coach Steve Kerr was asked postgame if the 34-year-old was on the bench due to injury.

“We just went with a group that was playing well,” Kerr said.

Unfortunately for Kerr, that group wasn’t able to get the Warriors the win, as the Clippers beat them 112-104 to hand them their first loss of the season. They have now dropped to 2-1 in 2024-25. As for Green’s contributions in this game, he finished with two points, five rebounds, and two assists.

Stephen Curry Suffered An Ankle Injury Against The Clippers

Green wasn’t the only Warriors star not on the court in the closing stages, as Curry wasn’t there too. Unlike Draymond, though, his absence was down to injury. Curry tweaked his ankle twice in the game and was forced to sit on the sidelines for the final 7:55 of the contest. That was a worrying sight for Warriors fans, but Kerr wasn’t too worried about Curry postgame.

“He’s doing okay. He said it was, I think he used the word mild or moderate. He’s obviously sprained that ankle multiple times before, so he doesn’t think it’s too bad. It’s a concern and he’s going to get an MRI tonight.”

“I didn’t have any conversations. When the training staff needs to tell me something, they come and tell me something, so I didn’t talk to them.”

Here’s hoping it isn’t anything too serious. Curry had 18 points, four rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block on the night. You wonder if the outcome would have been any different had the two-time MVP managed to stay in the game.

If Curry does end up missing a bit of time, I do worry for the Warriors. Sure, his supporting cast has started the season well, but their life on the court will be a lot harder without him.
