JJ Redick displayed his extreme focus as a head coach during the Lakers‘ 128-123 win over the Grizzlies. After LeBron James made a big three-pointer to extend the Lakers’ lead in the first quarter, JJ Redick could be seen telling off LeBron and Dalton Knecht for not following their assignment earlier in the quarter.

It was a disappointing defensive showing that prompted Redick to intervene and make sure that the two players didn’t lose focus later in the game. It was smart of Redick to inform his players of their mistake so that they wouldn’t repeat it later in the game when it could cost the team a win.

Both Knecht and James went on to have amazing performances for the Lakers last night. Knecht put up 19 points (7-8 FG), two assists, three rebounds, and one steal, going a brilliant 5-5 from the three-point line.

As for LeBron James, he put up his third consecutive triple-double with the Lakers, delivering 35 points (13-22), 14 assists, 12 rebounds, and one steal, while shooting 4-7 from beyond the arc and 5-8 from the free-throw line.

It was a crucial showing from both players, as they helped deliver in big moments to help the Lakers overcome the game Grizzlies. Redick, who may have been frustrated with Knecht early in the game, spoke in the post-game press conference, where he heaped praise on him and credited him for the win.

The Lakers are now 7-4 for the season and are the sixth seed in the Western Conference. Any concerns about Redick’s inexperience as a coach coming into the job have been dispelled for now, as the Lakers look like a strong team that can compete for the NBA championship.

JJ Redick: LeBron James Is A Master Of The Game

JJ Redick also spoke about LeBron James in the post-game press conference, where he spoke very fondly of the former MVP’s triple-double performance. Redick called James a master of the game and credited him for being able to take the game into his own hands and make important decisions that led the Lakers to win the game.

“Just by any means sometimes. Great players, you sort of have to give them some autonomy at times. We executed back-to-back plays out of an ATL. We got a LeBron dunk, and then we got an AD three. There was another timeout on their side. Bron saw something in the way that they had guarded it the first two times…”

“‘Just want to make sure you three are on the same page, the other guys are doing the same thing’. Bron gets a back-cut for a dunk so. He’s a master of the game and we don’t win that game obviously, without him.”

James has been sensational this season, averaging 24.3 points, 9.4 assists, 8.1 rebounds, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. And if he continues performing at this level, there might be a decent chance he could win the MVP this season.

LeBron and the Lakers will travel to San Antonio to take on the Spurs in their first game of the NBA Cup. As defending champions, the Lakers will be hoping to defend their crown and make history once again.
