  • Liz Cambage allegedly used racial slurs against Nigerian players in 2021
  • Cambage denied such accusations in a recent interview with Taylor Rooks
  • The Australian player was blasted by Nigerian team players for trying to join their team

Liz Cambage found herself in the middle of controversy when she was accused of using racial slurs against Nigerian players in 2021.

Cambage opted out of the 2021 Olympics but didn’t admit that she used any used racial slurs. The 31-year-old doubled down on her innocence in an interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks. However, she was called out by Promise Amukamara and Sarah Ogoke in a series of tweets.

“I’m sorry but this is false, Lol,” Amukamara tweeted.

“She called us Monkeys and told us to go back to our country. Yes, she said that!” the Nigerian star added.

“Literally everyone from both teams have the same story but her, so y’all do the math!” she tweeted.

“And the only person she has been in “cahoots” w/ was the former coach of our National team & he’s no longer the coach, so there’s that!” Amukamara concluded.

“Just open mouth and be talkin waaaa. Na lie abeg. We are not recruiting you and you definitely spewed racist profanities against us during our scrimmage,” teammate Ogoke wrote.

Amukamara and Ogoke do not believe in Cambage’s story. They have claimed that the Australian star is lying through her teeth, and every player on each team can support their claims. On the other hand, Cambage is the only person promoting a different story.

Liz Cambage Says She Wants To Join Nigeria National Team

Liz Cambage has seemingly dug a deeper hole for herself following her interview with Taylor Rooks.

Cambage initially used the platform to deny the accusations made against her. She later claimed that she’s trying to join the Nigerian national team because of her West African roots.

“I don’t really lean towards racially backed insults,” Cambage said. “That’s not how I go. I’m very pro-Black. I did not say these [things] to these girls. The truth looks a lot worse for other organizations involved, than using me as a scapegoat.”

She added: “We’re filing for me to leave the Australian national team so I can represent Nigeria. I’ve been in cahoots. I’ve been talking with them since all of this happened. This is what I mean. People don’t know the truth.”

While Cambage is trying to prove her innocence, players from the Nigerian national team have no plans to accept her rebuttal.

Which side is telling the truth? We will find out about it in the coming days. Hopefully, the authorities responsible will get to the root of it and provide fans with the truth.
