The initial video that Harper had reposted was deleted, but we found the original clip he had shared. It features two former slaves talking about their harrowing experiences of picking cotton in Mississippi. It included them talking about mistreatment despite their back-breaking work and is a real eye-opener to anyone who wants to shelter themselves from the truths of slavery.

Harper clearly believes very strongly in racial equality and education and he’s teaching his son very well. Ron Harper Jr. is currently playing at Rutgers University but has taken an active role in ensuring equality on his campus, joining the Big Ten’s Anti-Hate and Anti-Racism Coalition.
NBA Players Are More Empowered To Speak About Social Issues
There was a time when athletes shied away from discussing social issues due to the fear of being blackballed by the NBA. The stories of players like Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf give players good reason. But modern-era players are far more outspoken. LeBron James is a very proud and open proponent of civil liberties and racial equality, despite the hate he receives for it.
The same goes for Kyrie Irving, who recently made a profound statement on how they took talented Black people from different professions in their homelands and made them slaves in fields in the US. Even journeyman NBA center Etan Thomas recently shared a powerful quote reminding people of the horrors that slavery brought upon society.
Players will never shy away from representing the truths they face through racist experiences, especially after they have broken a cycle of poverty that many are still in by becoming multi-millionaire NBA athletes.
