Scottie Pippen Gifted Michael Jordan A Custom Diamond Earring With A Replica Of Their 1997 NBA Championship Trophy, And Michael Jordan Gave Pippen His Red Ferrari In Return

3 Min Read

Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan could be considered the greatest duo in NBA history. The two players combined to form the core of the greatest dynasty in NBA history, as they helped bring 6 NBA championships to the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s during their legendary stint together.

Pippen and Jordan seemed to get along very well together during their playing days. Their incredible chemistry on the court together allowed them to forge a decent relationship with each other. And on Christmas of 1997, they both showed each other the appreciation they had for each other with some incredible gifts.

As reported by Melissa Isaacson of ESPN in 2010, as a Christmas gift to Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen knew he wore earrings, and had a customized diamond earring with a replica of their 1997 NBA championship trophy embezzled in it. Jordan was seemingly very moved by the gift and changed his original gift to Pippen for something more touching.

Jordan gave Scottie Pippen his red Ferrari as a Christmas gift after he received Pippen’s amazing gift. Pippen was always a big admirer of his Ferrari, and Jordan felt that he needed to reward Pippen for the incredible gift that he gave him for Christmas that year.

For the Christmas of ’97, Pippen had an earring made for Jordan — a diamond-encrusted replica of the NBA championship trophy. Jordan, who had planned to give Pippen a box of cigars, reconsidered and instead gave him his red Ferrari, which Pippen had long admired.

“He wanted it so bad,” said Jordan.

Jordan and Pippen really showed how much they cared for each other. Keeping this in mind, it is a true shame to see the way that their relationship has fallen apart over the last few months. Pippen took aim at Jordan for a bunch of things in his new memoir, including accusing Jordan of sacrificing the rest of the Chicago Bulls in ‘The Last Dance’ docuseries for the sake of his brand.

Former Chicago Bulls star Charles Oakley has said that their relationship is done, and it was never really that great to begin with. So any hope of them reconciling, at least according to Oakley, is gone for the time being. We can hope things will change down the line, but as things stand, the two are no longer friends.
