Stephen Curry Defends Draymond Green: “We Are Not In The Finals Without Him…”

The Golden State Warriors are on the verge of winning another NBA championship, solidifying their status as one of the best dynasties that basketball has ever seen. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green have all helped change the game, showing that small-ball and shooting teams can be effective and win at a high level.

Draymond Green is often underrated by many due to his box scores, but there’s no doubt that he contributes a lot to the team, things that the box score doesn’t encapsulate. Without him, their defense would not be close to as good. With that being said, many people have criticized him for struggling in the Finals, even though he was fairly solid prior to this current series.

Stephen Curry has recently defended his teammate pointing out the Warriors need the “grit” that Draymond Green brings to the team, and added that the Warriors would not be in the Finals without his play in the first three series. Kendra Andrews of ESPN relayed the news.

“In a situation like this series where things are not as smooth and you have some rough patches, he finds a way to respond with the right energy and approach and toughness that, if you’re watching the game, you notice him at all times because he’s kind of everywhere,” Curry said. “We need that grit. We are not in the Finals without him playing at such a high level all year long, the first three series.”

Draymond Green did manage to do better in Game 5 against the Boston Celtics, so perhaps we’ll see him continue with that into Game 6. The Golden State Warriors will definitely need him at his best if they are to close out the Boston Celtics.

Hopefully, we see Draymond Green show out and remind the world of what he can do. He is an absolutely disruptive defensive player who can alter a team’s entire offensive scheme, and perhaps he’ll show some of that defensive ability during Game 6. He has already stated that the Warriors would win this year, so perhaps Draymond Green can help his prediction become a reality.
