Steven Adams has been in the NBA for a very long time at this point, and he has now established himself as one of the premier rebounders in the league. After setting a career-high with 10.0 RPG with the Memphis Grizzlies last season, he looks set to surpass that mark this season, as he currently ranks 5th in the league with an average of 11.2 RPG.

Adams has 44 rebounds in just his last two games, as he grabbed 21 rebounds against the New Orleans Pelicans to close out 2022, and he started off 2023 with a bang as well. Adams matched his career-high with 23 rebounds as the Grizzlies beat the Sacramento Kings 118-108 in their first game of the new year. He hauled in 13 offensive rebounds in the game for a new career-high and, after the game, hilariously explained why he is so good at it.

“We sucked at shooting, we kept missing shots so I went and got them.”

The Grizzlies shot 46% from the field against the Kings, which isn’t terrible, but it isn’t great, either. They would be grateful to have a rebounder like Adams to clean up their misses, and he is a big reason why they lead the league with 49.0 RPG this season.

The Grizzlies Have Steadied The Ship

The Grizzlies had a large target placed on their backs after Ja Morant said that they aren’t worried about any team in the Western Conference. Post those remarks, they suffered embarrassing defeats at the hands of the Golden State Warriors without Stephen Curry and then the Phoenix Suns without Devin Booker.

Dillon Brooks admitted that they freeze up when teams talk back to them and the Grizzlies probably just need to keep their mouths shut for a bit. To their credit, they have won 3 in a row after that loss to the Suns and have steadied the ship. They have got a fairly easy schedule coming up as well, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they return to the top of the Western Conference this month.
