The Bulls Are A Potential “Threat” To Land Christian Wood Before The Lakers

It will be a battle between the Bulls and the Lakers to sign Christian Wood this offseason.

The competition is heating up for Christian Wood, with the Chicago Bulls labelled as a potential threat to land the big man.

With an exit from the Dallas Mavericks looking seemingly possible, Wood was in the Los Angeles Lakers’ sights, but it appears that the Purple and Gold will have to outbattle the Bulls if they indeed enter the fray. NBA analyst Dan Woike reported the development in his latest for the LA Times.

“According to sources familiar with the team’s free-agent pursuits but not authorized to speak publicly, the Chicago Bulls are suddenly viewed as a potential threat that could keep the Lakers from landing Wood.”

This comes on the back of the Lakers GM saying that the team is looking to sign another big, and while Wood does fit the bill, they will look to make a move sooner if they intend to land him in free agency.

Can The Bulls Land Christian Wood?

Technically, yes. The fact that the Bulls got a $10.2-million player exception because of Lonzo Ball’s injury will be the main factor.

The franchise can either use the money to land a player via sign and trade or use all of it to ink him for a one-year deal. This means Wood has the chance to make a lot more money than the veteran’s minimum the Lakers can offer him, which would roughly tally to $2.4 million.

In his column, Woike added that the Miami Heat were interested parties as well. “Sources also believe that the Miami Heat could be a suitor for Wood, particularly if they’re able to pull off a Damian Lillard trade. The Heat were rumored to be in the market for Dario Saric before he picked Golden State and the Lakers had interest in Saric as well.”

The Bulls can use Wood to bolster their big-man lineup, as can the Lakers. But only time will tell if either of them sign the big man or if there is a new team that might beat them both to it.
