The San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Victor Wembanyama will be taken under the wing by legendary coach Gregg Popovich.
Coach Pop has been associated with the franchise since 1988 as an assistant coach and became the head coach in 1996. Popovich can be tough on his players, but it’s not an issue for Wembanyama. In a recent interview, the 19-year-old shared he wants an honest relationship for the Spurs’ head coach.
“Honest relationship,” Wembanyama said. “I’ve had coaches who didn’t always tell me the truth and I hated that. I’m confident that when I get the chance to get coached by coach Popovich, he doesn’t lie to his players. He tells the truth. Sometimes it’s harsh, it’s hard, but this is what I want.”

Victor Wembanyama Shared His Thoughts On Training With Gregg Popovich
Victor Wembanyama is touted to become the next face of the NBA. To attain that goal, Wembanyama needs to receive excellent coaching, and there are not many coaches better than Gregg Popovich in the NBA.
The French Phenom has already started working out with coach Pop. He shared his experience in a recent interview.

Wembanyama averaged 21.6 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 2.4 APG, 0.7 SPG, and 3.0 BPG for the Metropolitans 92 last season. The Spurs will expect him to carry over these numbers during his rookie year.
