The Golden State Warriors have seen their fair share of legendary players. Be it their current talisman, Stephen Curry, or a legendary center in Wilt Chamberlain, the Warriors have had some of the biggest names represent them in the NBA.
Talking about Chamberlain and Curry, the two players could not have been more different. Playing in the 1960s and the 2010s onwards, their approach to the game of basketball couldn’t have been more different.
While Wilt’s game was centered on rebounding and scoring through contact, Curry resorts to shooting the ball at a high clip. Both Chamberlain and Curry stood out in their eras and probably were the best at it.
Wilt Chamberlain Averaged More Missed Free Throws Per Season Than Stephen Curry Has Managed In His 13-Year Career
While there is no denying that Wilt Chamberlain was an absolute menace in his prime, his game was still not perfect. Perhaps the biggest Achilles Heel for the legendary center was his inefficient free throw shooting. Shooting at a dismal 51.1% for his whole career, it is fair to say that Chamberlain was among the worst free throw shooters the NBA has ever seen.
In fact, one wild stat has recently gone viral. In his 13 seasons in the league, Chamberlain averaged around 414 missed free throws per season, taking his total number of missed free throws to a mind-boggling 5805.
For context, Dubs talisman Stephen Curry, who is the best shooter the NBA has ever seen, has missed a total of 323 missed free throws with a free throw shooting percentage of 90.8% in his whole career. This is absolutely absurd to notice how different the two legendary players are.
While we still see some centers going through free throw struggles, none of them have been as crazy as Chamberlain. This just goes to show that no one in the NBA can be a perfect player. While a player like Wilt can do impossible things like scoring 100 points in a game, the same player can be one of the worst free throw shooters the league has ever seen.
