NBA Rumors: Damian Lillard Headlines List Of Point Guard Candidates For The Knicks

3 Min Read

The New York Knicks are having a terrific 2020/21 NBA season, exceeding expectations and making it to the postseason for the first time since 2013. Tom Thibodeau has done a great job with this team, giving them an identity and the desire to win.

They have a pretty attractive young core that can compete for several years to come, but that’s not the only good news for them. This offseason will see the Knicks have almost $70 million to spend in players, and they will try to take advantage of that, landing one or two big names to take their game to the next level.

The team’s front office will try to improve their point guard position, and, according to rumors, there are at least four names they would try to get in the summer via free agency or trade.

Ian Begley of SportsNet New York recently wrote that the Knicks have identified four targets to pursue this season, including a really big name that can make them championship contenders.

“They’re keeping an eye on Damian Lillard and any other star who may seek a trade if things go sideways with their current franchises. They also have guards like Dennis Schroder, Lonzo Ball and – per SNY sources – Kyle Lowry – on the radar for the offseason.”

Three of these names can land at the Madison Square Garden as free agents, but luring Lillard away from Portland would be a lot harder for them. They need to make a really compelling offer to the Trail Blazers and Dame needs to be interested in leaving his team, which is very unlikely right now.

It’ll be interesting to see which of these players decide to take their talents to the big apple and join a team with a bright future, a star like Julius Randle, and young assets like RJ Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, Immanuel Quickley and more.

The future looks good for the Knickerbockers, but we still have to wait and see if this season is good enough to change what people think about them as an organization.
