Currently 10th in the West, the Golden State Warriors certainly don’t have the look of a championship contender. But according to Draymond Green, he’d take his team’s chances against anyone for the simple fact that they’ve still got No. 30 healthy and in uniform.
“I 100% believe that we are legit title contenders this season. I don’t see any team out there that we couldn’t beat,” said Draymond Green. “Obviously the cards gotta fall in place, a lot of things gotta go your way, obviously you need some luck. That’s just the nature of winning championships. But I don’t see any team in the NBA that we can’t beat. And mama, we still got [Steph Curry].”
The Warriors have struggled to find consistency this season and their play has been up and down since they won the championship back in 2022. Last summer, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. tried to address the concerns by trading Jordan Poole for Chris Paul but it hasn’t been enough to make a meaningful difference so far.
This season has been more of the same for the Warriors, who began 6-2 before falling off to go below .500. And while their play has improved recently (winners of 7 of their last 10 games), there is a feeling that the Warriors are still a step or two behind the top contenders.
Due in large part to the decline of Klay Thompson and the season-long struggles of Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors have been a shell of themselves for months now but they are still confident that they can win it all this year and only a fool would count them out completely.
Who Is The Team To Fear In The Western Conference?
As 4x champions and experienced playoff winners, the Golden State Warriors aren’t afraid of any team in the West. Even after losing in the Western Semi-Finals, Golden State still has ambitions for a championship run, and Stephen Curry’s continued greatness demands they do everything in their power to build the best team possible.
As the team that beat them last year, the Lakers are obviously looming as an obstacle for the Warriors right now but Thursday’s win in Chase Center has increased confidence and they looked pretty good against their longtime competitors.
This year, however, there are new teams in the fold that should make things very interesting. Currently, both of the teams at the top of the West lack any kind of playoff experience and many believe they simply aren’t ready to win multiple playoff rounds. Against the Timberwolves or Thunder in a potential first-round matchup, the Warriors would feel pretty good about their chances.
There’s also the Los Angeles Clippers, who could pose a threat at full strength. The problem for them is that they’re never healthy for too long and history says that they will suffer some kind of major setback before completing their championship run.
If there’s any team the Warriors should be afraid of, however, it’s the defending champions. Everything the Warriors accomplish this season will be moot if they cannot find an answer for Nikola Jokic. We will find out soon enough what kind of plan they put together and if it’ll be enough to fulfill Draymond’s prophecy.
