Speaking in a segment of ‘The Draymond Green Show,’ the Warriors veteran gave his thoughts on a recent game against the Phoenix Suns. While the Warriors won the game that night, the story of the show was about Draymond and his former teammate, Kevin Durant, who seemed to share a moment at the end of the game. This week, Green finally revealed what he said to his former teammate as he called him out for publicly questioning his character.
“To start questioning my character I thought was whack… guys are making a habit out of that,” said Green. “Jusuf and Kevin questioned my character before as if you gonna determine somebody’s character from a basketball game as if this is not real life… I thought that was cowardly. Everybody was wondering what I said to KD after the game, I said ‘this is me, I’m doing this.’ And all of that was built-up tension… You gone question somebody’s character? You got my phone number. If you thought I hope you get the help that I need, you got my phone number. Hit me and say that. I thought it was all cowardly…”
Draymond and Durant became teammates on the Warriors after Draymond called the former MVP to join forces in 2016. What started off as a match made in heaven quickly spiraled out of control, and Durant would end up leaving after just three seasons. Today, as two stars on opposing sides, Green and Durant have no love for each other and their relationship is at an all-time low in the wake of Durant’s recent criticism of his former teammate. This season, the pair may very well be on a collision course in the West and there is no doubt that it will be intense given the history involved between the teams and their players.
Draymond Green And Kevin Durant Have Serious Beef
Despite winning back-to-back championships together in 2017 and 2018, Durant and Draymond aren’t exactly on the best of terms since parting ways. After an argument between the duo turned personal on the court, their relationship was never the same again and Durant would go on to blame his fallout with Green as a factor in his decision to leave. In the years that have followed, the Warriors have moved on, and have even won another championship with Steph, Klay, and Green. Meanwhile, Durant is still looking for his third trophy after a series of brutal seasons with the Nets. Now, in Phoenix, Durant has his best chance since 2019 at a championship and he will likely have to beat his former team en route to the Finals.
It’s impossible to predict how such a series might pan out right now, but the emotions will be running high with how much history is involved between the two sides. For Draymond especially, he’s got a massive chip on his shoulder this season and he’s made it a personal mission to prove all of his doubters wrong. Even his former championship teammate is on the hit list now, and it’ll be interesting to see what happens if they are forced to compete against each other when the stakes are highest. Clearly, the emotions are still running high for both sides and there remain some unresolved feelings on how Green’s tenure there ultimately played out.
