  • James Harden is unhappy with Daryl Morey due to him not getting a max contract offer
  • Adrian Wojnarowski noted that his mindset could be a problem at training camp
  • The 76ers recently ended trade talks about James Harden

Though guard James Harden has requested a trade after opting into his player option, it seems as though at one point, he was willing to stay with the Philadelphia 76ers. Based on recent reporting, it looks as if the dispute was for financial reasons.

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has recently revealed that James Harden is currently “unhappy” with Daryl Morey due to his not getting a max contract offer from the Philadelphia 76ers. It was recently reported that the Philadelphia 76ers have ended trade talks about James Harden.

“Harden is unhappy with Sixers president Daryl Morey over a lack of a long-term maximum-level contract offer, sources said, and the Sixers are risking Harden’s arrival at training camp bringing with it anything but a championship mindset.”

It is easy to see why James Harden is unhappy with the Philadelphia 76ers, as he is a star-level player who deserves a max contract based on his 2022-23 season performance. Still, there are valid concerns about his playoff performances and potential decline, and the 76ers’ perspective is understandable as well.

During the 2022-23 season, James Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists for the Philadelphia 76ers. Based on his box score numbers, Harden is a max-contract player, but it is clear that the 76ers didn’t want to risk giving him a long-term deal.

Joel Embiid Is Committed To Giving Everything To The 76ers Amidst James Harden Trade Saga

Many people have speculated about the effect the James Harden saga might have on 2022-23 MVP Joel Embiid. Based on previous reporting, it seems as though Joel Embiid has a great mentality, and is willing to give “everything” to the 76ers next season despite the ongoing trade rumors.

“His mentality is, he’s going to give everything that he has to the Sixers this year and that includes putting his arm around James Harden, that includes trying to lift Tyrese Maxey up…”

We will see how the Philadelphia 76ers end up doing next season. Though they clearly are one of the best teams in the league when James Harden plays, the star’s motivation levels playing for the team will be a concern given that he wants to be somewhere else. Hopefully, we see the star buy in next season, and perhaps the team can take a step forward collectively and make the Finals in 2024.
