  • The 76ers have stopped trade talks regarding James Harden
  • The team will bring Harden into training camp
  • There were some trade conversations with the Los Angeles Clippers

After star James Harden opted into his $35.6 million player option with the Philadelphia 76ers, we saw him request a trade. However, the team has not found a trade thus far, and it seems as though this saga may be over.

A recent report from Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that the Philadelphia 76ers have ended trade talks about James Harden. Wojnarowski noted that the team has had some “conversations” with the Los Angeles Clippers, but there has been “no traction” on a potential deal.

“The 76ers have ended trade talks on guard James Harden and plan to bring him back to training camp for the start of the season. The Sixers had periodic offseason conversations with the Clippers — Harden’s desired destination — but no traction on a deal materialized.”

“Sixers and Harden agreed to seek a trade together after Harden picked up his player option for 2023-2024, but Philly believes it has a championship team with Harden and wants to find a way to make it work with him this season, sources said.”

It remains to be seen if the Philadelphia 76ers will restart trade talks about James Harden at some point before the 2024 trade deadline. Forcing a star that doesn’t want to play for the team to suit up could end up as a disaster, but we have seen Daryl Morey be willing to get uncomfortable to get the desired return for a player with star Ben Simmons in the past.

This past season, James Harden averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game for the Philadelphia 76ers. He is clearly still a star-level player, and it is easy to see why the team wants to try and make things work with him going into next season.
