In Los Angeles, the dynamic between LeBron and Anthony Davis often gets misunderstood. At a glance, it can appear like the two are on completely different wavelengths but after signing an extension with the Purple and Gold this weekend, AD reminded everyone that he and Bron are still as thick as thieves.

While a lot gets misconstrued about their relationship, Davis himself has confirmed on many occasions that he and James are more than just teammates and co-stars… they’re friends.

“Me and Bron have one of the best relationships I think in the NBA as far as duos or teammates, regardless,” Davis said in a chat with ESPN. “But they don’t see that. They don’t see the stuff we do off the court and time we hang out with each other. They see on-court stuff.”

We know that AD and LeBron hang out consistently in the offseason, and they were together when they tried to recruit Damian Lillard to the Lakers a while ago. Despite LeBron’s age, it seems he’s still close to his teammates and still commands respect from those around him.

But for the Lakers to truly take that next step, and re-claim their place as champions, it’s Davis who will have to lead the show from here on out.

Can Anthony Davis Lead The Lakers?

Typically, the Lakers are at their best when AD is playing aggressively. This past season, we saw some real flashes from him during stretches when LeBron was out of the lineup.

Going forward, however, they’ll need more consistency from Davis as his All-Star teammate continues to age gracefully. Talent-wise, we know that Davis has what it takes to be the main option but concerns about his health and durability remain strong.

“They understand AD and his work ethic has shown,” Paul told Sportskeeda on AD’s $186 million extension. “He has some injuries, but it wasn’t due to him not working. It’s not like he came into camp overweight or showed any laziness. There were just fluke things. That happens in the game.”

Only time will tell how far AD can take the Lakers on his own but the whole world will surely be watching.
