It was the Los Angeles Lakers who raised the Larry O’Brien trophy back in 2020, but according to veteran point guard Patrick Beverley, the Clippers weren’t too far behind.

That season, the Clips finished 2nd in the West with a 49-23 record behind the talents of Kawhi Leonard and PG13. They never did make it to the Finals that year and fell apart in the conference semis vs Denver. Still, Pat Bev believes his team could have won it all that year had the season been played out like normal.

The Clippers had it all at the time. Between their star power, depth, and experience, they were the biggest threat to the Lakers that year but Kawhi and company were never able to adjust to life in the Orlando bubble.

Did Clippers Give Up In 2020 Bubble Run?

The NBA tried its best to accommodate players during the quarantine bubble in Orlando that season. The Clippers got an invite like every other playoff team, but they looked unfocused and out of sorts the entire time.

“I don’t count the Bubble. The Clippers choked, and the Clippers gave them a free pass to the Western Conference Finals,” said Marc Spears. “Clippers choked, Brian (Windhorst). They were up 3 – 1. They wanted to go home. That’s not to say Jamal Murray wasn’t amazing. The Clippers should have won that series.”

We will never know what would have happened in a COVID-free world, but you have to give credit to the Lakers for being good enough to keep their focus and maintain a strong level of play despite extreme circumstances.

Today, the Clippers are still without a ring but experts are still split over their chances to win. With Kawhi, PG, and some solid supporting players, they have a roster that can compete with the best of them. And yet, it seems that something is always getting in the way.
