  • Blazers are not happy with Miami’s offer for Damian Lillard
  • Heat are still in the best position to make a trade
  • Lillard sweepstakes could drag on for weeks and months

As GM of the Portland Trail Blazers, Joe Cronin has his work cut out for him. In the aftermath of Damian Lillard’s trade request, he has the task of trying to orchestrate the biggest trade in franchise history and it hasn’t been easy.

With the Heat as the only team on Dame’s preferred destinations list, the offers have been limited so far. And while Miami is still in a favorable position to land Lillard, the word on the street is that Portland just doesn’t love what they have to offer.

“Miami remains a team most motivated that has enough assets to eventually, perhaps, outbid the market. The problem is: Portland looks at what Miami has, doesn’t love it, and keeps hoping something better is going to come along. It may or may not.”

As of this moment, it’s possible that the Heat’s offer is currently the best one on the table. And while we don’t know for certain what Miami is willing to include, we can assume the offer revolves around Tyler Herro and several first-round picks.

Of course, the longer Portland waits the more likely it is that the offer improves, whether it’s from the Heat getting desperate or from another team deciding to finally step up with a package.

Blazers Are Determined To Find The Best Deal Possible

It remains to be seen how long this saga will endure, but Portland has made it clear already that they will not accept anything but a premium package for their franchise superstar.

So, even despite the best efforts from Dame and his agent, the Blazers still have a say over how this all plays out.

“The evolution of the NBA. You get hit with some shit each and every year. Dame, to me, it was time,” said Tracy McGrady. “But if I’m Portland, I got to do what’s best for our franchise, as well. I’m not gonna give away you, Dame, with you just coming off averaging 32 points. You still got game. I gotta get someone back that’s All-Star caliber.”

At this point, it’s a waiting game for Lillard and the Blazers and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. The Heat are still the favorites to land him for obvious reasons but don’t be surprised if another team swoops in to snag him at the last moment.
