The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the winners of free agency thus far. There is no doubt that they have made a number of shrewd acquisitions, and it seems as though they’re not done yet.
When speaking on the Saturday Sportsworld podcast, NBA insider Marc Stein claimed that the Los Angeles Lakers “would love” to add Christian Wood, noting that the team can pair him with Anthony Davis.
“The Lakers would love to add Christian Wood… by far the most talented big man available. From the Lakers’ perspective… because they have Anthony Davis… you put Christian Wood next to him… The Lakers are restricted to minimums in what they can offer… Are the Lakers interested in Christian Wood? No question.”
There is no doubt that Christian Wood offers size and shooting at the PF position. Though he clearly has defensive issues, getting a player of his talent on the veteran minimum is absolutely worth it.
This past season, Christian Wood averaged 16.6 PPG, 7.3 RPG, and 1.8 APG for the Dallas Mavericks, while shooting 37.6% from 3PT range. There is no doubt that Wood would improve the team on the offensive end, and we’ll see if he ends up on the Lakers.
The Miami Heat Were Also Linked With Christian Wood
There have been other teams that have expressed interest in Christian Wood in the past. In fact, earlier in free agency, he was linked with the Miami Heat. He is still a realistic acquisition for them right now, as he is still a free agent.
“Christian Wood continues to be mentioned by league personnel as someone on the Heat’s radar.”
There is no doubt that Christian Wood would be a good fit next to Bam Adebayo, due to his shooting skill. It is clear that Wood needs to be next to another big man that can help cover for him with rim protection. Perhaps being in the Miami Heat defensive system can help him as well. The key for Wood is being able to accept his role on both ends of the floor, and we’ll see where he ends up in the future.
