The Miami Heat made the 2023 NBA Finals, but unfortunately, the team fell short of winning the championship. One of the team’s biggest issues was their lack of consistent offense outside of Jimmy Butler, and it seems as though they will try to figure out how to improve in that department this summer.
A recent report from Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports revealed that the Miami Heat could target big man Christian Wood, who will be a free agent this summer. Wood is notably known for his ability to space the floor and play either the PF or the C position.
“Christian Wood continues to be mentioned by league personnel as someone on the Heat’s radar.”
Christian Wood is definitely one of the best potential players to put next to Bam Adebayo in the frontcourt due to his size, mobility, and 3PT shooting ability. Though his defense is an issue, perhaps the Miami Heat can figure out a way to make him a neutral on that end of the floor, and playing with other elite defenders will help him in that regard.
This season, Christian Wood averaged 16.6 PPG, 7.3 RPG, and 1.8 APG for the Dallas Mavericks, while shooting 37.6% from 3PT range. He is definitely a talented offensive player, and we’ll see if he ends up on the Miami Heat in the future.
The Heat Have Also Been Linked To Damian Lillard
The Miami Heat have clearly been exploring every avenue to improve the roster. In fact, they have been linked with Damian Lillard in the past, who is seemingly open to joining them.
“Lillard indeed has serious interest in joining the Heat, who would surely love to pair him with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. If it reaches this point — and there’s still an ‘if’ here considering all the times Lillard chose not to ask out before — Lillard’s wishes would matter a great deal because of the enormity of his contract,” reported Sam Amick for The Athletic.
It remains to be seen if Damian Lillard will end up on the Miami Heat in the future. They would definitely be a team that allows him to compete at the highest level, but perhaps his loyalty to the Portland Trail Blazers will win out.
