The 2023 offseason has slowed down, as most teams have acquired the players they were targeting for next season. There are many dominos left to fall, including what exactly will happen with the stars of the Toronto Raptors.
Marc Stein reported recently that the Indiana Pacers are very interested in making a swing for Pascal Siakam, joining the Atlanta Hawks as a possible suitor for the former champion.
“It is increasingly conceivable that Toronto’s Pascal Siakam could be moved before one or both of them given that Siakam trade chatter has begun bubbling at an increased rate. The Indiana Pacers, league sources say, have emerged as a legitimate trade contender for Siakam. The Atlanta Hawks, of course, have been pursuing Siakam since last month’s draft.”
Siakam is coming off a solid individual season, averaging 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists last season. The Raptors likely will not return to championship contention with their current core, so moving on from the 29-year-old Siakam to get younger and focus on building around Scottie Barnes is exactly what the franchise needs to do.
Do The Pacers Need Spicy P?
Siakam is going to move the needle in a more profound way than most people have been expecting. His offensive skill set is far too diverse for Tyrese Haliburton to not love having him on the court with him. Siakam can shoot from all spots on the floor while also excelling as a roll-man and cutter when needed. He’s never had service like the kind Haliburton would provide, transforming the Pacers back into a playoff team.
Indiana did draft a power forward for the future in Jacare Walker this summer, so trading for Siakam hurts the potential development he could enjoy. You never know, maybe he gets sent to the Raptors in a Siakam trade and gets a chance to blossom in the rebuilding situation.
This is a fascinating trade, but we may be weeks away from a deal being made official, but it’ll be exciting to see how it plays out.
