Mavericks And Kings Are Among Six Teams Interested In Pascal Siakam Trade

A lot of suitors have emerged for Pascal Siakam ahead of free agency, with the Mavericks and Kings leading the pack.

Pascal Siakam is a former champion, All-Star, and All-NBA caliber player. People keep forgetting about his talent due to the middling success of the Toronto Raptors since 2019, not allowing Siakam to get the attention his talent deserves.

With the Raptors missing the playoffs and possibly headed towards a rebuild under new coach Darko Rajakovic, teams are lining up with trade offers for Siakam, according to trusted Canadian sportswriter Michael Grange.

“Multiple teams have inquired about the possibility of Siakam being available — Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, and Sacramento have made calls — and while few conversations have even qualified as preliminary, it’s not as if the Raptors have been opposed to listening.”

Grange also said that teams around the NBA still don’t know what the team’s intentions are this offseason, with a quote from a league source.

“As has been typical, their true intentions are hard to read: ‘Not the easiest team to figure out,’ said one league source.”

Some of these destinations are really interesting, but it doesn’t seem like the Raptors will let Siakam go at the price of a salary dump like we have seen players like Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jordan Poole be moved for very little value this summer already.

Siakam averaged 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 5.8 assists last season and was named an All-Star.

Ideal Destinations For Siakam

Out of the rumored teams, the Mavericks and Hawks are the least likely to land Siakam. Their asset pool is not as robust as the other teams they could be competing with. Dallas has only one future tradeable first and a lack of depth that they need to address. The Hawks have to untangle their salary cap while also lacking trade assets due to the Dejounte Murray trade from last year.

The Hornets can provide good value in terms of draft assets, but it is unlikely that the team gives up future assets for a 30-year-old Siakam when their team’s development timeline wouldn’t match up with a win-now setup. The same could be said about the Rockets, who are looking to spend money to fill out their books but not move future assets to transform the team in the short term. This leaves the Pelicans and Kings are actually realistic landing spots.

The Pels haven’t been able to commit to their win-now ways due to Zion Williamson being perennially injured. If they can use their draft assets and a few young players, they could have Siakam fill up the hole Zion leaves. They could convince Toronto to take Zion, provided Masai Ujiri buys into his value.

The Kings need to make a win-now move to continue their momentum from making the playoffs this season. Siakam would be a great fit into their offensive setup and could make the Kings even more explosive than they already were this season.
