Guard Eric Gordon has historically been a solid role player, being well-known for his scoring ability and 3PT shooting. He has been part of many playoff runs, and last played for the Los Angeles Clippers.

A recent report from Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that the Los Angeles Clippers are not guaranteeing the last year of Eric Gordon’s contract, paving the way for him to become a free agent.

“The Clippers aren’t guaranteeing guard Eric Gordon’s $21 million contract and he’ll become a free agent, sources tell ESPN. Gordon has averaged 16 points on 37 percent three-point shooting in his 15-year career.”

“Gordon’s waiving saves the Clippers $110M in luxury tax, per Bobby Marks.”

It is easy to see why the Los Angeles Lakers elected to go this route, as they now save $110 million in luxury tax penalties. Though Gordon is a good player that could potentially have contributed to the Clippers next season, it is clear that it made the most financial sense to waive him.

This past season, Eric Gordon averaged 12.4 PPG, 1.9 RPG, and 2.7 APG during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets,  while shooting 37.1% from 3PT range. He could potentially be a quality veteran coming off the bench of a contender, and we’ll see where he ends up after free agency.
