French prospect Victor Wembanyama is one of the most highly anticipated rookies in NBA history. As a 7-foot big man who can shoot and dribble like a guard, Wemby is expected to become a major star in the NBA, and the Spurs, who landed the top pick this year, is a sure-fire bet to draft him.

How did Victor himself feel after discovering the Spurs won the draft lottery this year? According to Wemby, he felt lucky, considering the track record of excellence associated with the Spurs franchise.

“San Antonio is synonymous with winning. On lottery night, when the Spurs got the No. 1 pick, I was feeling lucky that they got the pick as a franchise that has that culture and experience in winning.”

No matter how you feel about the Spurs, nobody can deny their history. As 5x champions, they’ve achieved enormous success over the past 25 years thanks to a great culture that stems from the top down.

In the NBA, Victor will feel right at home with the Spurs, who helped other European legends like Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili put together fantastic careers. We don’t yet know what to expect from Wembanyama at the NBA level, but he’s in good hands with Gregg Popovich and a widely respected franchise.

Wemby Is Facing Immense Pressure To Live Up To Expectations

Hailed as the best prospect since LeBron James, the expectations for Wembanyama have reached ludicrous heights and a lot of kids in his position would have folded a long time ago.

Yet, Wemby presses on and even embraces the challenge that comes with being considered the best.

“I have such high expectations for myself and I’m so determined that the expectations of others are nothing compared to what I place on myself. I really have my goals inside and nothing can distract me from it,” said Victor. “It’s not that hard to be able to.”

The NBA Draft is tomorrow night, and while Wembanyama’s destination is not in doubt it will be interesting to see how his game holds up at the NBA level and if he’s ready to become a high-impact player out of the gate.
