After the blockbuster news of Bradley Beal being traded to the Phoenix Suns, Draymond Green made some noise of his own by opting out of his $25.7 million player option and becoming a free agent.
Some are concerned that Green uses his free agency to leave Golden State for the frequently rumored destination of the Lakers. Adrian Wojnarowski has spoken to new Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Green’s agent Rich Paul and says both sides are likely going to figure out a new contract to keep Green on the Warriors.
“Opting out was just for procedure. It made sense to do that financially and now go back and negotiate a new deal with the Warriors. These are two sides that very much want to get a deal done. Draymond and Rich Paul are not posturing and threatening to go elsewhere, even though there are great options out there for them… I think there’s a desire on both sides to stay together, they want each other. For Draymond Green, the idea of continuing with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Steve Kerr, it means the world to him. It’s just a matter of whether it’s a four-year deal or a three-year deal. I don’t sense any sense from either side that this could go sideways. I think these sides are destined to reunite.”

Green averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists this season, not the most appealing numbers, but that’s exactly what Draymond does. His impact is never reflected on the stat sheet, as he is the orchestrator of the Warriors’ defense along with one of their primary playmaker.
Curry and Green have incredible on-court chemistry, and there is no team in the NBA where Green is as valuable as he is to Curry and the Warriors.
Draymond Green Continues As The Anchor Of This Dynasty
Draymond is an oft-trolled personality for his brash nature and constant praise of rivals like LeBron James, but there’s no questioning what he does for the Warriors. He caused major issues last season after punching Jordan Poole, so Golden State will have to find ways to rebuild squad morale if they keep Green and Poole together for one more season.
The chances that Draymond leaves are slim. Unless the Detroit Pistons decide to use their cap space to make Green come to his hometown, he will likely re-sign with the Warriors. He reportedly expects a max contract, similar to the one Steph is on. That is definitely not going to be happening, so the final extension amount will be interesting to see.
