Former NBA player Tony Snell has made a big revelation about his current life, explaining that he was recently diagnosed with autism. During a recent interview, Snell said that after seeing his 18-month-old son struggling to develop some skills for his age, he and his wife decided to go see a doctor.
After his son Karter was tested and diagnosed, Snell remembered he had similar characteristics growing up and got himself checked.
“I was always independent growing up, I’ve always been alone. … I just couldn’t connect with people (on) the personal side of things,” Snell told TODAY.
“I’m like, if (Karter) is diagnosed, then I think I am too. … That gave me the courage to go get checked up,” Snell added.
He said that instead of being taken as a bad thing, this diagnosis made him see things with so much clarity.
“I was not surprised because I always felt different. … It was just relief, like, oh, this why I am the way I am,” he said.
“It just made my whole life, everything about my life, make so much sense. It was like a clarity, like putting some 3D glasses on.”
It’s good to see that Snell didn’t hesitate to get himself checked and is not afraid of speaking about his condition publicly. People with autism don’t see the world the same way others do, as they have problems with communication or social interaction.
They also experience differences in the process of learning, moving, or paying attention.
Tony Snell’s NBA Career
Tony Snell was drafted into the NBA in 2013, selected with the 20th overall pick of that year’s draft by the Chicago Bulls. He had experiences with five other teams in the NBA, including the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks.
In 601 games in the association, Snell averaged 6.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He last played for the New Orleans Pelicans in the league and is a part of the Maine Celtics since January 2023.
