Trae Young was one of the stars linked to the Los Angeles Lakers soon after the Atlanta Hawks’ playoff exit at the hands of the Boston Celtics.

The guard was one of the surprise names that came up when it came to Lakers trade talks after The Athletic’s Jovan Buha reported that LA could be interested in adding him to their ranks.

Young finally addressed the theories on the “From The Point” podcast, his very own. “A lot of people made a lot of things out of me being at games. I’ve been to a lot of games throughout my years. I’ve always been a fan of the game… most of the time I’ve got a friend playing that I’m there watching, like [Michael Porter, Jr.] for Denver.”

Soon after news of Young being a potential target for the Lakers broke, the familiar narrative of Kyrie Irving to LA took over. There is more “smoke” over Kyrie to LA rumors than Trae Young, reported NBA insider Chris Haynes.

“I don’t think we’ll see D’Angelo Russell back with the Lakers, LeBron wants to fade more into the role as a secondary scorer and playmaker,” he added. It’s worth noting that James is now linked to Dallas, with Irving reportedly pushing the Mavericks for a trade.

Will Trae Young Fit With The Lakers?

While Young surely addresses the offensive firepower for the Lakers, his defense leaves a lot to be desired. Darvin Ham has been a defense-first coach, and that would mean he would rather go for a guard who is effective on both ends of the floor.

On a side note, our very own Eddie Bitar proposed a blockbuster trade that answers fans’ prayers. Here’s a quick outline:

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Kyrie Irving (Sign and Trade)

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Trae Young

Atlanta Hawks Receive: D’Angelo Russell (Sign and Trade), Josh Green, 2026 First-Round Pick From Dallas, 2029 First-Round Pick From Los Angeles

The three-team trade is surely a win-win for all teams in the mix. Trading Young would mean a bit of a rebuild for the Hawks, but they have enough names that could make for a promising roster. But as far as the fit goes, it’s one deal the Lakers may very well skip.
