The 2023 NBA Finals are proving to the world that Nikola Jokic is easily one of the best NBA players in the world, if not the individual owner of the crown of the best player in the league right now.

Jokic went through a rough regular season in terms of major media network personalities like Kendrick Perkins diminishing Jokic’s incredible achievements. KP has admitted fault and said that he and networks like ESPN need to do a better job of marketing Jokic.

“We are ought to blame. We as the media, as the network ESPN because we should do a better job of promoting and marketing him. He should be on television. because if you wanna show someone how to play basketball the correct way, you have to show them Jokic. When you talk about IQ, strength, and skill, Jokic is the one you’re supposed to be watching. We shouldn’t have to wait till the NBA Finals to be able to appreciate Jokic. We got to do a better job, including myself, of actually marketing him.”

There’s no doubt that Jokic deserves a larger spotlight. He should be receiving it if the Nuggets win the championship. Knowing how these media cycles function, his marketing will be even worse because people will criticize him for not being able to close the door on the Heat in the Finals.

Nikola Jokic Cementing All-Time Status

If Jokic and the Nuggets actually win the title, he will probably elevate himself into the conversation of the greatest bigs of all time. He’ll likely join the Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Garnett-level of all-time status, if not surpass them. The race to be one of the greatest centers in league history requires a lot more accomplishments, given the giants that still stand ahead of him.

If he fails to win a title, he’ll likely be remembered in the same vein as Charles Barkley due to the lack of a ring on his finger. ESPN and Perkins will be some of the first to jump to the front of the line to criticize Jokic, so nothing will change until he fulfills the traditional standard of winning a championship and going through a summer as one of the most beloved players in the league.
