Nikola Jokic is pushing on the legacies of some of the greatest players in league history. A championship this season with a Finals MVP may cement Jokic’s position within the top 20 of all-time NBA players.

Chris Broussard has said a championship vaults Jokic ahead of Dirk Nowitzki, Charles Barkley, and Kevin Garnett. He also said Jokic will surpass Kevin Durant by the end of their careers.

“He’s ahead of [Kevin] Garnett if he wins this championship. Probably [Charles] Barkley. I love Barkley, but this dude is leading a team to a championship and his numbers are outrageous. If he wins this championship he’s better than Dirk [Nowitzki]. I think he’s just better than Dirk, period. Dirk’s got one MVP and one championship, Jokic has two MVPs and may have the same championship. He’s a better rebounder, Dirk wasn’t a defender… I think Dirk is overrated by a lot of people… Durant? Not yet. When Jokic’s career is all said and done, he’ll be ahead of Kevin Durant.”

Thoughts? 🤔

Broussard did end up dismissing Dirk’s impact without considering the circumstances he was in with the Mavericks and the value of his 2011 championship run. Regardless, Jokic would be placed ahead of the names Broussard mentioned if he had a title to his name. This season has been incredible, Jokic’s numbers remain incomprehensible for his position, and leading the Nuggets to glory would be an even better story.

Is A Championship Guaranteed For The Nuggets?

No title is ever guaranteed in the NBA, but the Nuggets are prohibitive favorites heading into the 2023 NBA Finals. Unfortunately, their opponents have battled against expectations all season long and have already beaten the two teams with the best regular season records in the league.

The Nuggets have just looked like a well-oiled machine all playoffs long. The ease with which they dismantled the Lakers after LA came off a comprehensive series win over the Warriors has boosted their perception incredibly. Michael Malone needs his men to lock in and execute for just four more wins because Erik Spoelstra’s Heat are as ready as ever for this miracle championship run to payoff.
