The Denver Nuggets have walked through the Western Conference and just swept the Los Angeles Lakers 4-0 to go to their first NBA Finals in franchise history.

This was the third time LeBron James has been on the wrong end of a sweep, and he has crowned this version of the Nuggets the best team he’s faced since joining the Lakers in 2018.

James faced a fully healthy superteam Golden State Warriors in 2018, but that wasn’t a playoff matchup, though LeBron led his young Lakers to a win over them before suffering an injury that crushed the team’s playoff hopes for that season.

This Nuggets team will be the favorite to win the Finals now after such a dominant display against the Lakers. Given their Finals opponents may end up being the Miami Heat, it’s safe to assume that nothing can be predicted accurately given how the Heat have surpassed expectations with every playoff game.

Is The NBA Title Coming To Denver?

The Nuggets have never been looked at as one of the worst franchises in NBA history, but they have never broken through the Western Conference before. Every great team of every era made it as far as the Conference Finals before losing, usually to the Lakers. The roles are reversed now, as the Nuggets have dominated the West all season long and are finally being given their rightful respect.

If the Heat can also sweep the Celtics, the Finals will be incredibly interesting. Can Erik Spoelstra’s tricky defensive schemes work against the offensive brilliance of Nikola Jokic? Michael Malone won’t lose his locker room like Joe Mazzulla has given the years of bonds he’s built, so every hoop-head will be anxiously waiting for the NBA Finals to start on June 1.
