Patrick McCaw Shares The Worst Rookie Experience Of Being Hazed By The Warriors Veterans

Patrick McCaw got real on the time he was hazed by Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, and others as a rookie on the Warriors.

Patrick McCaw was a fleeting part of the Golden State Warriors dynasty, winning titles in both 2017 and 2018 with the franchise after being selected with the 38th pick in the 2016 Draft.

McCaw didn’t have the easiest time as a rookie on the dynasty, revealing how he was hazed for not following a request made by Draymond Green.

“It was on a road trip, I believe. We had a stop in New Orleans and Draymond asked me to get him some beignets. I had forgotten the spot, I was already out with some friends and family already. So, I kinda ignored it like I was going to do it when I had the time, but I didn’t respond at all. Knowing me, I just slipped up and forgot and never did it. So I’m in my room, chilling, full Warrior’s jumpsuit on, about to play a game. All I hear is my hotel room unlock and it’s Draymond, Andre, JaVale, and James McAdoo. They got like four big buckets of water and say ‘Move your controller, move your phone, move anything you don’t want to get wet.’ Before I knew it, they had dumped all four buckets of water on the bed. I was fully clothed, like I was soaked. They didn’t have extra blankets. I was pissed, they took all my games and stuff, controller. I never forgot to do something I was supposed to after that again.”

McCaw’s Warriors stint would end soon after, leaving the franchise to join the Toronto Raptors for the 2018-19 season. This led to McCaw involuntarily three-peating, winning the 2019 championship with the Raptors. He hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2020-21 season, currently playing in the G League.

The Warriors Entering A New Transitional Phase

McCaw’s time on the Warriors was spent in their dynastic heyday from 2016 to 2018, winning titles in those seasons. The team won another title in 2022 but faced their first loss in the Western Conference since 2014 when they were eliminated by the Lakers this season.

Golden State are likely to use their 19th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft along with young assets like Jordan Poole and Jonathan Kuminga to re-tool their roster and be more competitive next season with the core. The team may also decide to dump one of Klay Thompson or Draymond Green, so the squad is bound to look refreshed as we head into the 2023-24 season.
