Before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Warriors were undefeated against Western Conference playoff opponents with Steph, Klay, and Draymond Green healthy. This season, despite a hard-fought campaign, the Warriors didn’t have enough to complete the mission and Steve Kerr says they went as far as they could have.

Speaking to the media after the game, Kerr admitted that his team wasn’t complete and that they reached their potential as presently constructed.

“To be fair I think this team ultimately maxed out,” Kerr said. “We were barely in the playoff picture for most of the year… this is not a championship team.”

It’s a pretty brutal analysis from Kerr, but not entirely wrong. From before the start of the season, there were signs that things were bad and as the games piled up, their lack of performance on the road became a glaring warning sign.

By the time they reached the playoffs, Curry was coming off two injuries and the Dubs looked like a shell of themselves. But even now as the haters doubt the team’s future, Kerr is confident that this group still has more in the tank.

Can Warriors Win Another Championship?

The Warriors are at a major turning point in the franchise. Depending on how this offseason plays out, it could have major implications on their ability to compete with what’s left of Curry’s prime.

But as long as the Splash Bros are healthy, it’s impossible to count them out completely.

“I think it’s probably too raw right now for me to think about,” Kerr said after the game. “The one thing I will say is that Draymond, Klay, and Steph, our core guys, they’ve got plenty left to offer. There’s still plenty in the tank. I think they all had great seasons.”

The problem for the Warriors is the supporting cast. Over the summer, GM Bob Myers needs to focus on adding depth, shooting, and size to add alongside an aging backcourt.

Needles to say, he’s got his work cut out for him.
