The Boston Celtics are on the verge of getting eliminated from the playoffs as they are down 2-3 vs. the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown had a great Wednesday night, despite not having a game to play.

Tatum made the All-NBA First Team, while Brown earned All-NBA Second Team honors. It means that both superstars are now eligible for a supermax contract.

Brown is currently playing the seventh season of his NBA career and is eligible to sign a 5-year $295 million supermax contract extension this summer. On the other hand, Tatum can sign a 5-year $318 million contract in July 2024.

It means the Celtics will have a huge decision to make this offseason and the following year. After all, it would take $613 million to retain both superstars.

Will Jayson Tatum And Jaylen Brown Stay With The Boston Celtics?

There are no doubts about the talent that the dynamic duo possesses. They led the Celtics to an NBA Finals appearance in the 2021-22 NBA season, albeit losing vs. the Golden State Warriors.

But if the Celtics get eliminated from the postseason, it could mean breaking up the duo. Many believe that the Celtics are Tatum’s team and Brown will be the one who gets traded.

Moreover, according to an anonymous NBA executive, Tatum will stay with the Celtics if even they trade his teammate of six years.

“They have done nothing but make Jayson Tatum feel welcome there, make him feel like he is part of a line that goes back to Bill Russell, [John] Havlicek, Sam Jones, Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, all the Celtics greats,” an anonymous NBA GM told Heavy. “As long as they are continuing to win, I don’t think you’re going to hear anything negative from Tatum about wanting to leave.”

Jayson Tatum averaged a stunning 30.1 PPG, 8.8 RPG, and 4.6 APG for the 2022-23 NBA season as compared to Jaylen Brown’s 26.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 3.5 APG. So, if it comes to it, the Celtics will most likely choose Tatum to build around the future.
