JJ Redick has been drawing attention from some NBA teams now that he’s retired. The former player always showed his knowledge of the game on the court, but after becoming an analyst, Redick has taken things to the next level.
That’s why a couple of teams around the league are reportedly interested in Redick. The Toronto Raptors recently conducted an interview with the sharpshooter as they keep looking for a new head coach following Nick Nurse’s departure.
“Fifteen-year NBA veteran and ESPN analyst JJ Redick interviewed for the Toronto Raptors’ coaching job this week, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
“Redick was part of a first round of interviews and met with franchise leadership in Toronto recently, sources said.”
This is big for Redick, who just retired from the league in 2021. He has become a known and respected voice around the NBA world and it’s not shocking to see that teams are already trying to lure him away from ESPN, where he currently works.
Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Raptors have more than a dozen of candidates for this job, including Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon, Golden State Warriors’ Kenny Atkinson, and even Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin.
They have a group of solid candidates to take over a team that has a lot of potential but could also blow it up this offseason.
Boston Celtics Reportedly Interested In Redick As An Assistant Coach
As for Redick, he’s not only followed by the Raptors. The Boston Celtics could make a move for him, too.
“He had been a target for several teams, including the Boston Celtics, as an assistant coach since retiring as a player in 2021,” Wojnarowski adds in his report.
This is an intriguing situation for Redick. He seems to be really happy working on ESPN, even with the beef he might have with Kendrick Perkins. It remains to be seen if the right offer will seduce him, and perhaps the Raptors can make it.
This offseason will be very important for the Canadian team, as everything can get a lot better or completely worse for them. Time will tell, but it would be good to see Redick taking the reins of an NBA team soon.
