Anthony Davis made history by becoming the first Los Angeles Lakers star to score 30 points and grab 20 rebounds in a game since Shaquille O’Neal in their Game 1 win over the Golden State Warriors.

LeBron James had the highest praise for his co-star, saying his jersey will one day be retired for his contributions to the Purple and Gold.

“The No. 3 will be up in the rafters… He continues to show why he’s one of the most dynamic players in the league.”

Anthony Davis scored 30 points and grabbed 23 rebounds with 5 assists and 4 blocks on the night, an utterly dominant statline. The Lakers won the game 117-112.

A second-round series doesn’t get jerseys retired, but if AD can continue performing like this on a Lakers title run after their 2-10 start to the season, it may be one of the most historic championships of all time. That would solidify AD’s name in the long list of Lakers legends for playing a big role in two championships.

Can Anthony Davis Sustain This Form?

When Anthony Davis is playing dominant basketball, there’s no stopping him. His health is the only thing that restricts him and he seems as healthy as we’ve seen him in a long time in this playoff run. He’s doing the dirty work, taking big hits, but never backing down. He is averaging 22.1 points, 15.0 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks through this playoff run.

The problem with Davis is that his level of effort can wane in between games. He was dominating every alternate game against the Grizzlies and his low-effort games ended up costing the Lakers almost every time. With the effort Kevon Looney had tonight, grabbing 23 rebounds and playing gritty defense, Davis will have to stay locked in to sustain this level of production.
