Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets are cruising through the playoffs almost unnoticed so far. They beat the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games and made light work of the Phoenix Suns in Game 1 of the Conference Semifinals.
Nikola Jokic has been stellar for the Denver Nuggets once again, and he has a healthy and firing Jamal Murray alongside him. The Nuggets look like a real threat to win it all, and Jokic is playing like the MVP. This has led to a top reaction from analyst Bill Simmons.
“Even the Warriors, as great as Curry is, they’ll have sections where their offense just breaks down,” Bill Simmons said on his podcast. “You don’t really see it with Denver, and this was the case for him in voting for MVP which I ultimately decided not to do and will probably regret for the rest of my life…”
“I just don’t think they ever break down with him. When he is on the court, they’re gonna get a good shot. He didn’t even shoot that well in Game 1 ( vs MIN) and he was still awesome, other than Murray he was the most impactful guy in the game.”
Bill Simmons admits he will probably regret not voting Jokic for MVP for the rest of his life. Praised Denver’s offense, the team’s performance at home and Jokic and Murray as a duo.#MileHighBasketball #BringItIn @ChrisMarlowe pic.twitter.com/EVegsE349l

Nikola Jokic doesn’t look like he’s gotten out of second gear in these playoffs so far and has still averaged 25.8 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in 6 games so far. Jokic is shooting an incredible 50% from three-point range, he is the offensive engine, and he looks like the MVP too. Joel Embiid is injured, and Giannis Antetokounmpo is already out, so it’s easy to see why Simmons feels the way he does.
Nikola Jokic Knows It Won’t Be Easy To Beat The Phoenix Suns
Even though they won Game 1 with ease, Nikola Jokic knows things won’t be that easy for his Denver Nuggets team throughout. Even before the series began, Jokic was calling the Suns the favorites to win the NBA championship.
“Probably, they are the favorites to win the championship. They have an amazing group of guys. Well-coached. There is Chris Paul who is probably the best floor general in the game. Booker and KD are superstars, arguably the best players in the NBA right now.”
Maybe he just said this as a mind game, but the Suns have looked good this season with Kevin Durant. Whatever the case may be, it doesn’t seem like this will slow Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets down. He will get a lot of criticism if he can’t at least get to the Finals this season, but if he can beat the Suns and then either Curry or LeBron in the Conference Finals, his haters will have nothing left to say.
