The Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns advance to the second round of the 2023 NBA Playoffs on the same night, making it clear they are set to win it all this season. They have four players ready to make a deep playoffs run and two superstars that will do everything to lead their squad.

Nikola Jokic knows this will be a challenging series, and talking about his next rivals, the reigning defending NBA MVP noted that the Suns are the favorites to win the championship this year.

“Probably, they are the favorites to win the championship. They have an amazing group of guys. Well-coached. There is Chris Paul who is probably the best floor general in the game. Booker and KD are superstars, arguably the best players in the NBA right now,” Jokic said on Tuesday, via Eurohoops. “It’s a very big challenge for us.”

He knows that the challenge is bigger now, and getting some rest before the start of this series is crucial for the Nuggets.

“Of course, the rest helps,” noted the Joker, “OK, we won the first round and now it’s another step. We need the same focus or even better for the next round.”

The Nuggets are the No. 1 seed in the West, and just like the Suns, they have something to prove this season. Jokic and Kevin Durant have big pressure this postseason, and whoever comes out victorious in this series will have a big chance to win it all.

Denver has his four best players healthy and ready to go, which will present a good matchup against the Suns. Phoenix also has its squad in a good position and ready to make it to the Western Conference Finals for the second time in three years.

Nuggets And Suns Will Have An Incredible Series

Besides the pressure on Jokic and Durant’s backs, this series presents other storylines to keep an eye on. Back in 2021, they clashed in the postseason, with the Suns taking care of business and sending the Nuggets home in four games.

During that series, Joker and Devin Booker (Durant’s best partner now) clashed. They clashed face-to-face, and Jokic was ejected from the game after a hard foul on Cam Payne that upset Booker. That’s when the infamous Jokic brothers became a big deal around the league, and perhaps those hard feelings haven’t healed after all this time.

We hope this is a high-level series for the show’s sake, but as the championship gets closer, tempers tend to flare more easily, and these two teams have huge desires to win this season. Game 1 of this series is scheduled for Saturday at Ball Arena.
