The Golden State Warriors have joined the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round after a sensational Game 7 win.

Despite Stephen Curry dropping 50 points in their Game 7 triumph, Skip Bayless believes Curry and the Warriors will fall short against LeBron James and the Lakers when the teams face off in the second round.

Bring on Steph vs LeBron. I'm going with … LeBron.

— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) April 30, 2023

Whenever Bayless says anything about LeBron, it’s to be taken with a pinch of salt as it will be spun in a way for him to disparage James on TV. If LeBron and the Lakers win, he will diminish the triumph by saying he expected it and that we shouldn’t celebrate them for doing something he knew would happen.

If LeBron and the Lakers lose, it gives him more ammo to attack LeBron by claiming he was the favorite and that he has disappointed everyone by not winning the series.

Who’s The Favorite In The Series?

So far in the playoffs, Stephen Curry has thoroughly outplayed LeBron during their respective first-round matchups. LeBron averaged 22.2 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, a massive departure from his career playoff average. Meanwhile, Curry has elevated his level of play and averaged 33.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists against the Kings.

Preliminary odds have declared the Warriors as the slight -155 favorites over the Lakers. James’ slow ramp-up to form has to be a massive factor, as LeBron needs to be at his best to overcome the reigning champions. Anthony Davis can’t afford to have games where he’s barely scoring 10 points either, so the inconsistency from the two stars in LA has definitely affected the odds so far. The Lakers won the season series over the Warriors 3-1, including a win after their deadline day trades.

The Lakers weren’t favored to beat the Grizzlies by oddsmakers either, so their opinions should not be taken as the absolute truth. Either way, we’ll know what’s what when we see these teams in action against each other on Tuesday in Game 1.
