Draymond Green made headlines during the Golden State Warriors’ Game 2 defeat against the Sacramento Kings for stomping on Domantas Sabonis’ chest.
Green defended his ejection by claiming Sabonis grabbed his leg. He also claimed it was a solid basketball play. In all honesty, Sabonis was correct in defending himself as Green got away with an attempt to make a dirty play in the Warriors’ regular season matchup vs. the New Orleans Pelicans.
In the clip, Draymond Green and Herb Jones can be seen getting into it with each other after the latter tried to get a charge call in his favor. When they were tangled on the floor, Draymond kicked Jones in the face, and the referees didn’t even bat an eye.
Former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Shaquille O’Neal defended Green for his actions against Sabonis, but does the Warriors star really deserve to get the benefit of the doubt here? No, and Green is getting punished for his actions.
Draymond Green Gets Suspended For Game 3 vs. The Kings
The Golden State Warriors are currently down 0-2 against the Sacramento Kings in the opening round of the playoffs.
Losing Draymond was the last thing that the Dubs wanted. However, Green will miss the crucial Game 3 of the series. The league suspended Dray for Game 3 after taking his unsportsmanlike acts from the past into consideration.
“Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has been suspended one game without pay for stepping on the chest of Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. The suspension was based in part on Green’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.”
Not everyone agrees with Green’s suspension. At the end of the day, had Draymond kept his calm on the play, it wouldn’t have put the Warriors’ chances of defending their title in jeopardy.
If the Dubs lose Game 3 of the series, they will be on the verge of getting eliminated from the postseason in the first round. It could also mean the end of the Warriors dynasty.
