Draymond Green is the center of attention right now after getting ejected in Game 2 of the Warriors series against the Sacramento Kings for stomping on Domantas Sabonis.

Green reacted to his ejection after the game, blaming Sabonis for grabbing his leg given Green’s lack of maneuverability.

“My leg got grabbed. Second time in two nights. Referees just watch it. I gotta land my foot somewhere and I am not the most flexible person, so I can’t stretch it that far… I can only step so far with him pulling my leg away, it is what it is. The explanation was that I stomped too hard… I wasn’t surprised that he stayed down.”

This foul is going to be the primary talking point from this game, as Green’s ejection meant that he wasn’t on the court as the Warriors tried to pull out the win. If he stayed on, the Warriors could have been heading back home 1-1 instead of down 2-0. Fans have already mocked Green for this incident, so if it costs the Warriors the series, the backlash may be incredible.

Who’s To Blame?

Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis both deserve blame for the incident. Sabonis was adjudged with a technical foul for grabbing Green’s legs but the stomp wasn’t necessary. We see players tangled up like that quite often but we rarely see one player stomp on the other player’s chest. Green’s ejection shouldn’t be surprising and it doesn’t seem like the Warriors forward is accepting it.

Whether this situation escalates to a suspension is still unknown. From a competitive standpoint, fans would prefer watching the Warriors at full strength in a do-or-die Game 3 at home, where a loss could result in Golden State losing in the Western Conference playoffs for the first time since 2014.
