Despite his amazing talent and legacy as the face of an entire NBA franchise, Damian Lillard’s career has been clouded with ‘what-if’ scenarios as fans and media push for him to abandon the Trail Blazers.

Even now, with this season already a lost cause, Lillard continues to fight back against those narratives to set the record straight on who he is and where his priorities lie.

“Y’all just don’t know but they speak as if they just know what’s best and they know how everything is going to play out,” said Lillard. “They know how everything should go and this means that. Half the time, people don’t know what the hell they talking about… they don’t know the individuals they talking about, they don’t know these people, and they don’t know our lives. They don’t know why we make the decisions they make. They don’t know why we are attached to the things we attached to. They just speak from as far as they understand, and they just don’t understand. I don’t expect them to because they don’t know me like that. None of ’em. So it ain’t about loyalty I’m just talking about y’all don’t know me for real and y’all speak as if y’all know where I’m coming from and y’all got everything figured out on my behalf.”

Despite a rough few seasons, Dame had led the Blazers to eight consecutive playoff appearances and even made a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2019.

Time and time again, he’s preached loyalty to his team and has spoken out against ring culture and the pressure for stars to pursue a title at all costs.

Despite this, the campaign for Dame to leave Portland is still as strong as ever.

Lillard Is Getting Flamed For His Loyalty To The Blazers

As one of the best point guards in the game, and one of the best shooters ever, we all want to see Lillard win a championship, and you can’t blame people for considering that task impossible in Portland.

“I don’t know how many times he has to have been told. The Portland Trail Blazers are not the place to be. There have been about 17 or 18 games this year where they’ve had a 17-18 point lead and they’ve lost the lead. You just don’t see that very often. They just don’t have it,” said Stephen A. Smith.

This summer could ultimately decide the future of the franchise. If they keep Jerami Grant and make moves to improve the depth and defensive edge of the team, it could flip the entire situation around.

If not, then it could result in yet another lost season for Lillard, with more noise to follow from fans who feel his loyalty is misplaced.
