Ben Affleck is a hardcore Boston sports fan and has been rooting for the Celtics for a very long time.

He recently sat down for an interview with Kendrick Perkins and the big man asked him for his favorite Celtics player of all time apart from himself.

“There’s nobody outside of you,” Affleck said. “You’re in my top 10. The 10 of my top 10 is you. 09-10 Kendrick Perkins, I’d put up against anybody in 2K.

(starts at 2:18 mark):

Perkins was drafted by the Celtics in 2003 and spent eight seasons with the franchise, during which he won a championship in 2008. He would also make it to the Finals in 2010, where they lost to Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Perkins averaged 6.4 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.0 APG, and 1.4 PPG during his Celtics career and while he was never even close to being a star, he was a very good role player for them. 2009-10 was certainly his best season, as he averaged 10.1 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 1.0 APG, and 1.7 BPG.

Affleck had this sitdown interview with Perkins to promote his upcoming film “Air”, which tells the story of Nike signing a young Michael Jordan. Matt Damon also stars in it and it is set to release in theatres next month.

Ben Affleck Explained Why Michael Jordan Won’t Be Appearing In The Film

While the film is about Nike and Jordan signing up for a partnership that has become so incredibly successful today, the man himself won’t be making an appearance in it. Damien Young, who will be playing the role of Jordan, barely features as well and is very much out of focus.

Affleck explained that Jordan won’t be in the movie because he is too big for it and that he exists above and beyond the story. He has gotten permission from MJ before making the film and stated it is very much from Nike’s perspective, not Jordan’s. It is about how the company rose to the top by taking a gamble and bringing on board the man who would go on to be regarded by many as the greatest of all time.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
